The gold standard for B&W developing
I have been using Ilford Rapid Fixer for over a decade. It is incredibly consistent, clears film quickly, and the concentrate lasts a long time when stored properly. Essential for any darkroom.

Perfect for students and pros

Solid performer
Does the job well. I dock one star only because the bottle cap can be a bit tricky to seal tightly after opening, but the liquid itself is top quality.

Fast and reliable

Great product, strong odor
The chemical performance is excellent and my films come out perfectly clear. Just be aware that it has a fairly strong sulfur smell, so good ventilation in the darkroom is a must.
Q: Is a hardener included in this formula?
A: No, Ilford Rapid Fixer is a non-hardening fixer. This is generally preferred for modern films as it allows for faster washing and better archival stability.
Q: Is this safe to pour down the drain?
A: Disposal regulations vary by location. Generally, small amounts of spent fixer from home use may be flushed with plenty of water in areas connected to municipal sewage treatment, but large quantities should be taken to a hazardous waste facility. Please check your local environmental guidelines.
Q: How do I know when the fixer is exhausted?
A: You can test exhaustion by measuring the clearing time of a film leader. If the clearing time exceeds double the initial clearing time of fresh solution, it is time to replace the bath.
Q: Can this fixer be used for both film and photographic paper?
A: Yes, Ilford Rapid Fixer is suitable for both black and white film and fiber-based or resin-coated papers. The recommended dilution is 1:4 for film and 1:7 for paper.
