Authentic feel
As someone returning to calligraphy after years, this kit brought back great memories. The inkstone is smooth, and the bristles on the large brush are soft yet resilient. A complete four treasures set indeed.

Good for practice, instructions could be better
The materials are high quality, especially the water writing cloth which is very durable. However, the included guide is very basic. You might need to watch online tutorials to get started effectively.

Perfect starter kit for my daughter

Excellent quality Xuan paper
I was worried the paper might be too thin, but the included Xuan paper is perfect. It absorbs the ink beautifully without bleeding too much. The variety of brush sizes allows for different stroke styles.

Great value, nice storage box
The quality of the brushes is surprisingly good for the price. The bamboo storage box keeps everything organized and looks elegant on my desk. The ink stick takes some effort to grind, but that's part of the traditional experience.

A: The set features a mix of natural hairs. The smaller brushes typically use wolf hair for precision, while the larger ones often use a blend of goat and wolf hair for flexibility and ink retention.
Q: Does the storage box have compartments?
A: Yes, the wooden base has molded sections to hold the inkstone and brushes securely, while the Xuan paper and water cloth fit neatly underneath or beside them depending on how you arrange them.
Q: Is the ink liquid or do I need to grind it?
A: This kit includes a solid ink stick and an inkstone. You will need to add a few drops of water to the stone and grind the stick to create liquid ink, which is the traditional method.
Q: Can the water writing cloth be used with real ink?
