Easy to Get Started

Great Hardware, Documentation Could Be Better
The ESP32-S3 chip performs wonderfully for human-machine dialogue tasks. The 16MB flash and 8MB PSRAM handle large language models locally without issues. Just wish the English documentation for the specific AI SDK was more detailed.

Solid Performance, Runs Hot Under Load
The processing power is fantastic for running local AI models. However, notice that the chip gets quite warm during extended voice processing sessions. I added a small heatsink which solved the issue completely.
Q: What is the maximum range of the Wi-Fi connection for this module?
A: The range depends on your environment and router, but typically you can expect 30-50 meters indoors and up to 100 meters in open line-of-sight conditions, consistent with standard ESP32-S3 performance.
Q: Does the kit include a microphone array or just a single mic?
A: The standard material kit includes a high-quality single digital MEMS microphone. However, the board exposes pins that allow you to easily add an external microphone array for beamforming if your project requires it.
Q: Is the Xiaozhi AI software open source?
A: The underlying ESP-IDF and Arduino libraries are open source. The specific Xiaozhi AI dialogue framework included in the kit has its own licensing terms, which are detailed in the README file provided in the kit.
