Easy to set up
I was worried about driver issues, but my computer recognized it immediately. The community support for ESP8266 is huge, so finding example code for sensors and actuators was very easy. Great purchase!

Essential for smart home DIY
Using this to control lights and monitors via MQTT. The stability is impressive for such a low-cost board. The V3 version has a better layout than previous versions, making breadboarding much easier.

Great value, minor pin labeling issue
The board performs well and connects to WiFi instantly. My only complaint is that some of the pin labels on the silkscreen are a bit small to read clearly. Otherwise, it's a solid development board for the price.

Good performance, runs warm
The module handles multiple WiFi connections well. It does get slightly warm during extended use, but nothing concerning. For the cost, you really can't beat the functionality it offers for wireless projects.

Reliable for prototyping
We bought ten of these for our workshop. All of them worked out of the box. The Lua firmware is pre-installed, but flashing custom firmware is straightforward. Highly recommended for education and prototyping.

Perfect for IoT beginners
This NodeMcu V3 board is exactly what I needed to start my smart home projects. The built-in USB-to-serial converter makes uploading code incredibly easy without needing extra adapters. Works flawlessly with the Arduino IDE.
Q: Is this compatible with the Blynk IoT platform?
A: Absolutely. The ESP8266 NodeMcu V3 is fully compatible with the Blynk platform. You can easily program it using the Arduino IDE with the Blynk library to create mobile apps for controlling your hardware remotely.
Q: Does this board come with the CH340 driver installed or do I need to download it?
A: The board uses the CH340 chip for USB communication. While Windows 10 and 11 often install the driver automatically, you may need to manually download and install the CH340 driver for older operating systems or macOS/Linux if it is not recognized immediately.
Q: What is the maximum current this board can output on a single GPIO pin?
A: Each GPIO pin can safely source or sink approximately 12mA. The total current for all GPIOs combined should not exceed roughly 100mA to avoid damaging the chip. For driving higher current loads like motors or bright LEDs, we recommend using external transistors or relay modules.
Q: Can I power this board directly with a 3.3V source instead of USB?
A: Yes, you can power the board by applying 3.3V directly to the 3.3V pin. However, please ensure your power source is stable and can supply at least 500mA, as WiFi transmission spikes can cause resets if the current is insufficient. Do not apply 5V to the 3.3V pin.
Q: How many GPIO pins are actually available for use?
A: While the ESP8266 chip has 17 GPIOs, on the NodeMcu V3 board, typically about 10 to 12 pins are easily accessible for general use without conflicting with boot modes or flash memory operations. Pins D0 through D8 are commonly used, but please refer to our pinout diagram in the documentation for specific restrictions.
