Ideal for learning embedded AI
As a student, this board offered the best balance of cost and capability. I was able to get the chat robot speaking within a weekend. The community support for the ESP32-S3 is growing fast.

Great hardware, documentation could be better
The board itself is high quality and the N16R8 module provides plenty of storage. Setting up the AI voice recognition took some time because the specific libraries for this board were a bit scattered, but once running, it works flawlessly.

Native USB is a lifesaver
No need for external UART converters anymore. The native USB support on the S3 makes debugging so much faster. The 16MB flash is also plenty for storing multiple language models locally.

Perfect for AI Voice Projects
This board is exactly what I needed for my Xiaozhi chat robot project. The 8MB PSRAM handles the audio buffering smoothly, and the native USB makes flashing firmware incredibly easy. Highly recommended for DIY AI enthusiasts.

Excellent performance for the price
I've tested several ESP32 variants, and the S3 with this much RAM is a game changer for edge AI applications. The vector instructions significantly speed up my neural network inference times. Very satisfied.

Solid board with minor heating
Works great for continuous Wi-Fi and audio processing. I noticed it gets slightly warm during heavy Wi-Fi transmission combined with AI processing, but nothing concerning. Added a small heatsink just to be safe.
Q: Does this board come with a pre-installed case or enclosure?
A: No, this package includes only the bare development board. You will need to purchase a separate case or design your own 3D printed enclosure.
Q: Is this compatible with the Arduino IDE?
A: Yes, the ESP32-S3 is fully compatible with the Arduino IDE. You just need to install the ESP32 board manager package and select the 'Xiao ESP32S3' or relevant S3 board profile.
Q: What microphone module do you recommend for the Xiaozhi AI project?
A: We recommend using an I2S digital microphone module, such as the INMP441 or MSM261S4030H0, for the best audio quality with the ESP32-S3's I2S peripheral.
