Reliable non-contact measurement
We used these in a student project to monitor motor heat. They were consistent and easy to integrate into our Raspberry Pi setup.

Fast response time
Impressed with how quickly it updates the temperature reading. Perfect for my robotics application where I need to detect heat sources.

Good sensor, narrow FOV
Solid performance. Keep in mind the 90-degree field of view means you need to be relatively close to the target for accurate readings. Not for medical use.

Calibration needed
Works well out of the box but seemed slightly off compared to my contact thermometer. Had to apply an offset in the code. Good value though.
Q: Can I use this to measure human body temperature?
A: This sensor is designed for industrial and hobbyist object temperature measurement. It is not calibrated or certified for medical diagnostic use.
Q: What is the maximum distance for measurement?
A: Accuracy depends on the target size relative to the field of view. For small targets, close range is recommended.
Q: What library should I use for Arduino?
A: We recommend the Adafruit MLX90614 library or the standard Wire library for I2C communication.
Q: Does this work with 5V logic?
A: Yes, the module supports 3.3V to 5V logic levels.
Q: Is waterproof?
A: No, the PCB and components are not waterproof. Please house it in a suitable enclosure for outdoor use.
