Good brushes, paper could be thicker
The brushes are the highlight of this set; they are very springy and hold their shape well after washing. The practice paper is a bit thin, so I recommend placing an extra sheet underneath if you use a lot of ink. Overall, a solid purchase.

Perfect starter kit for my daughter
I bought this for my daughter who is just starting to learn calligraphy. The quality of the brushes is surprisingly good for the price. The mixed hair holds ink well and creates smooth strokes. The felt mat is a nice touch to protect our table.

Complete and ready to use
No need to buy anything else. The inkstone is heavy and stable, the brushes feel balanced in the hand, and the storage box keeps everything organized. It's a very thoughtful kit for anyone interested in the Four Treasures of the Study.

Excellent quality for regular script
As an adult beginner, I was worried about buying cheap tools. This set exceeded my expectations. The brush tips come to a fine point, making it easy to practice the intricate strokes of Regular Script. The paper absorbs ink beautifully without bleeding too much.

Great value, minor ink learning curve
Everything you need is in the box. The brushes are soft yet responsive. The only reason for 4 stars is that grinding the solid ink stick takes some practice to get the right consistency, but that is traditional. Highly recommend for beginners.

Q: Do I need to buy water separately to use the ink stick?
A: Yes, you will need to provide your own water. You place a few drops of water on the inkstone and grind the ink stick in a circular motion to create liquid ink.
Q: Is the felt mat washable?
A: The felt mat is designed to absorb excess ink and protect surfaces. We recommend spot cleaning only. Washing it in a machine may cause it to lose its shape or texture.
Q: How do I clean the brushes after use?
A: Rinse the brushes gently under cool running water until the water runs clear. Reshape the bristles with your fingers and let them air dry horizontally or hang them with the bristles facing down. Never leave them standing upright in water.
