Professional grade instrument
I bought the 420 size for my university ensemble. The high-low tonal range is distinct and cuts through the orchestra beautifully. Highly recommended for serious musicians.

Exceptional clarity for opera performance
This Fengming drum produces the exact sharp crack needed for Peking Opera rhythms. The wood quality is superb and the skin tension is perfect out of the box.

Authentic traditional craftsmanship
You can feel the heritage in this instrument. The rosewood is dense and the cowhide head responds instantly to light strokes. It arrived well-packaged and ready to play.

Great sound, slight cosmetic flaw
The acoustic performance is fantastic, very dry and crisp as described. There was a tiny scratch on the rim, but it does not affect the sound at all.

Best investment for my troupe
We replaced our old drums with these Fengming models. The consistency between the different sizes (416-424) allows us to match tones across our entire percussion section perfectly.

Solid choice for students and pros
Very durable construction. I have been using it daily for rehearsals for three months and the pitch remains stable. The only reason for 4 stars is the case could be slightly more padded.
Q: Is this suitable for other types of Chinese folk music besides Peking Opera?
A: Absolutely. While designed for the Jing class of Peking Opera, its versatile high-low tone makes it excellent for various regional operas, folk ensembles, and contemporary fusion projects.
Q: Are the drumsticks included suitable for professional performance?
A: Yes, the included bamboo sticks are standard weight and balance for Peking Opera. However, many professionals prefer to use their own personalized sticks for specific articulation styles.
Q: How should I store this drum to maintain the skin quality?
A: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or extreme heat. Avoid damp environments to prevent the cowhide from stretching or molding. Using the included case is recommended.
Q: What is the difference between the 416 and 424 sizes?
A: The numbers refer to the diameter in millimeters. The 416 is smaller with a higher pitch, while the 424 is larger with a slightly deeper, resonant low tone. Both maintain the characteristic crisp 'dry' sound.
Q: Does this drum come tuned or do I need to tune it myself?
A: The drum arrives pre-tuned by our master craftsmen for optimal performance. However, like all natural skin drums, minor adjustments may be needed based on your local humidity and temperature.
