Great for Opera
Perfect for Zhuiqin repertoire. The bass response is powerful. I deducted one star only because the case latch was a bit stiff initially, but it loosened up with use.

Beautiful but heavy
The instrument sounds incredible and the finish is flawless. It is slightly heavier than my previous zhuihu due to the dense Nanmu wood, but the tone quality makes up for it.

Worth every penny
As a professional performer, I am very picky about my instruments. This Quhu has excellent projection and the tuning stability is impressive right out of the box.

Professional Quality
I purchased this for my advanced students. The large string configuration produces a deep, rich sound that fills the concert hall without any harshness.
Q: What is the difference between the Quhu and the standard Erhu?
A: The Quhu (or Zhuihu) typically features a larger soundbox and longer strings compared to the standard Erhu, producing a deeper, more resonant bass tone suited for specific regional operas.
Q: Is the gold inlay real gold?
A: The inlay consists of genuine gold foil applied using traditional craftsmanship techniques to ensure durability and aesthetic beauty.
Q: Does this instrument come pre-strung?
A: Yes, the Chen Family Quhu comes fully strung with professional-grade steel-core strings ready for immediate play.
Q: Can this be used for modern fusion music?
A: Absolutely. While designed for traditional Henan opera, its rich tonal range and professional build make it versatile enough for contemporary and fusion genres.
Q: How do I care for the Nanmu wood finish?
A: We recommend wiping the instrument with a soft, dry cloth after each use. Avoid exposure to extreme humidity or direct sunlight to preserve the lacquer and wood integrity.
