Perfect for my first calligraphy class
As a complete beginner, I was worried about the paper being too thin or absorbing ink too quickly. This semi-absorbent paper is forgiving and allows me to correct minor mistakes before the ink sets completely. The grid lines are clear but fade nicely into the background.

Love the antique aesthetic
The rice-character pattern and yellow tone give my practice sheets a very authentic look. It makes practicing feel less like homework and more like creating art. The grids are perfectly spaced for medium-sized Kai script characters.

Excellent control for beginners

Great quality for the price
The thickness is impressive compared to other student-grade papers I've tried. It doesn't bleed through even when I press hard on the downstrokes. The only reason for 4 stars is that the scroll format takes a bit of practice to handle without curling.

Sturdy and reliable
I've gone through three packs of these already. They hold up well under repeated brushing and don't tear easily. The long scroll format is great for practicing continuous lines or poems.

Good texture, slight odor initially
The paper texture is smooth and pleasant to write on. There was a slight smell of the pulp when I first opened the package, but it aired out after a day. Overall, a solid choice for daily practice.

A: No, the grid lines and rice-character patterns are printed using a light, non-smudging method that sits beneath the surface texture, ensuring they do not interfere with your ink strokes.
Q: Does the paper come rolled or folded in the package?
A: To prevent creases that could affect your writing, the long scrolls are shipped carefully rolled in a protective tube.
Q: Is this paper suitable for water-only practice (magic water cloth style)?
A: While primarily designed for ink, the semi-absorbent nature does allow for temporary water writing, though the effect may not last as long as on specialized water-writing cloths. It is best used with actual ink for permanent practice.
Q: What size brush is recommended for these medium grids?
A: For the medium Kai script grids on this paper, we recommend a brush with a tip diameter of approximately 1.0cm to 1.5cm (medium to large regular script brushes) to fill the squares proportionally.
