Excellent value for money
I bought this for my calligraphy class. The thickened feature means students don't ruin their work easily with too much water. The grid lines are faint enough not to distract but visible enough to guide.

Good for sumi-e painting
The raw sheets work beautifully for bamboo and orchid paintings. Ink tones layer nicely without becoming muddy. Delivery was prompt, and the packaging kept the sheets flat and undamaged.

Perfect for beginners learning brush control
The rice grid on this paper is incredibly helpful for maintaining character structure. The thickness prevents ink from bleeding through to the table, which was a problem with cheaper papers I tried before.

Authentic Jing County feel

Great quality, fast shipping
As someone new to Chinese painting, I found the semi-raw variety offers a nice balance. It absorbs ink well but doesn't spread uncontrollably. The only reason for 4 stars is that I wish the six-foot size came in larger packs.

My go-to practice paper
I have reordered this three times now. The consistency between batches is impressive. Whether writing regular script or running script, the paper responds predictably to my brush strokes.
Q: Does the four-foot size fit standard framing mats?
A: Yes, the four-foot size (approx. 138x69cm) is a standard dimension in Chinese art and fits widely available framing mats and frames designed for Four Foot Xuan works.
Q: Can I use liquid ink sticks with this paper, or only bottled ink?
A: Both work wonderfully. Since this is genuine Xuan paper from Jing County, it is designed to perform well with traditional ground ink sticks as well as modern bottled inks.
Q: What is the difference between the Semi-Raw and Raw sheets included?
A: Raw paper absorbs ink quickly for expressive, spreading effects ideal for freehand painting. Semi-Raw offers slightly more resistance, giving you better control for detailed calligraphy and structured drawings.
Q: Is the rice grid printed in ink or embossed into the paper?
A: The rice grid is lightly printed using a fade-resistant, non-interfering ink that does not affect the absorption properties of the Xuan paper.
