Reliable and compact
Small footprint makes it easy to integrate into tight spaces. I used it to build a custom media center controller. No issues with interference so far.

Great replacement part
My original sensor on a development board died, and this was a perfect direct replacement. Soldering was easy and it functions exactly like the original component.

Good value, sensitive receiver
Very responsive sensor. It picks up IR signals from quite a distance. I deducted one star because the included header pins were slightly bent, but that was easy to fix. Great for the price.

Works as expected
Standard IR receiver module. If you know how to use the IRremote library, this will work instantly. Just ensure you provide stable 5V power for best range.

Essential for robotics class
Bought five of these for our university robotics project. All of them worked immediately out of the box. The 38kHz frequency is standard and matches most consumer remotes perfectly.

Perfect for Arduino projects
This module works flawlessly with my Arduino Uno. I was able to decode signals from an old TV remote within minutes of setting it up. The pinout is clearly marked and the build quality is solid.
Q: Can this receive signals from any brand of remote control?
A: It can receive signals from most standard consumer electronics remotes (TV, AC, Audio) that use a 38kHz carrier frequency. Proprietary or non-standard frequencies may not work.
Q: How do I identify the VCC and GND pins?
A: When facing the front of the black epoxy dome with the pins pointing down, the pinout from left to right is usually OUT, GND, and VCC. However, please check the specific silkscreen on your board variant to be sure.
Q: Does this come with a library for Arduino?
A: The hardware itself does not include software, but it is fully compatible with the popular open-source 'IRremote' library available in the Arduino Library Manager.
Q: Is this module compatible with 3.3V logic systems like ESP32?
A: Yes, the VS1838B operates between 2.7V and 5.5V, making it fully compatible with 3.3V systems such as the ESP32 and ESP8266 without needing a level shifter.
Q: What is the maximum effective range of this sensor?
A: Under normal indoor lighting conditions, the effective range is typically between 8 to 10 meters, depending on the power output of the IR remote transmitter being used.
