Perfect for robotics projects

This sensor is incredibly accurate for short-range detection. I used it on my line-following robot and the response time is excellent. The I2C library worked flawlessly with my Arduino setup.

Good documentation support

As a beginner, I found plenty of tutorials online for this specific chip. It took me an afternoon to get it working with a Raspberry Pi. Readings are consistent within the stated range.

Excellent precision

Tested against a calibrated ruler and the accuracy is impressive up to about 1.5 meters. Beyond that, it gets a bit noisy, but for close-proximity sensing, it is unbeatable at this price point.

Compact and reliable

Love how small this board is. It fit perfectly into my drone's obstacle avoidance system. The purple board version looks cool too. Highly recommend for embedded systems.

Great value, minor setup quirks

The module works as advertised. Had to double-check the pull-up resistors on my custom board, but once configured, the distance readings are stable even in bright indoor lighting.

Works well but sensitive to glass

The sensor performs great on matte surfaces. However, be aware that it struggles slightly with transparent or highly reflective glass surfaces, which is expected for ToF technology. Still a solid purchase.

Q: What is the maximum update rate for distance measurements?

A: The VL53L0X can typically achieve measurement rates up to 50Hz depending on the timing budget and range settings configured in your code.

Q: Is this module compatible with 5V logic microcontrollers like the standard Arduino Uno?

A: Yes, but since the sensor operates at 2.6V-3.5V, you must use a logic level shifter or a breakout board with a built-in regulator and level shifting to safely connect it to 5V systems.

Q: How does sunlight affect the performance?

A: While the sensor has good ambient light immunity up to 100k Lux, direct intense sunlight may reduce the effective range and accuracy. It is best suited for indoor or shaded outdoor applications.

Q: Can multiple sensors be used on the same I2C bus?

A: Yes, but since they share the same default I2C address, you will need to programmatically change the address of each sensor individually using the XSHUT pin during initialization.
