Great for learning embedded systems

Bought this for a university project on motor control. It helped me understand interrupts and pulse counting easily. The documentation could be slightly better, but there are plenty of online tutorials.

Robust build quality

Excellent precision

Perfect for Arduino motor projects

Reliable and easy to use

Good value, needs stable mounting

The sensor itself is very sensitive and accurate. I deducted one star because the mounting holes are a bit tight, so you need to be careful not to crack the PCB when screwing it down. Otherwise, great product.

5 FAQ

Q: What is the maximum speed (RPM) this sensor can accurately measure?

A: Given the response time of less than 10 microseconds, this sensor can theoretically handle hundreds of thousands of pulses per second. For most hobby motors up to 20,000 RPM with a standard interrupter wheel, it will be perfectly accurate.

Q: Is the output signal pull-up or pull-down?

A: The module typically outputs a LOW signal when the slot is blocked and HIGH when clear (or vice versa depending on specific logic design), but it includes an onboard comparator for a clean digital TTL signal suitable for microcontrollers.

Q: Can I use this outdoors?

A: While the component works well, the open-slot design means strong direct sunlight might interfere with the infrared beam. We recommend shielding the sensor from direct ambient light if used outdoors.

Q: Can this module work directly with a Raspberry Pi GPIO?

A: Yes, it works with Raspberry Pi. Since the module operates at 3.3V-5V, you can connect VCC to the 3.3V or 5V pin and the OUT pin directly to a GPIO pin configured as an input.

Q: Does the package include an interrupter wheel?

A: No, this package includes only the sensor module. You will need to provide your own interrupter wheel or a slotted disk to attach to your motor shaft.
