Works well on black tape, struggles on dark floors
The sensor is good for standard black electrical tape on white paper. However, if your floor is dark wood or gray, you might need to build a small shield around the sensor to block ambient light interference.

Reliable and compact
I have bought several batches of these for my classroom kits. They are durable and the IR LEDs are bright enough to detect lines even in moderately lit rooms. Highly recommended for educational projects.

Solid component for the price
Arrived quickly and packaging was secure. The soldering points are clear and easy to work with. One of the four pins was slightly bent, but I straightened it out easily. Overall a great purchase.

Great value but needs careful calibration
For the price, you can't beat this sensor. It took me a little while to get the distance right for my specific track tape, but once calibrated, it is very reliable. Just make sure your power supply is stable.

Easy to interface with Python and C++
The digital output makes coding very simple. No complex libraries needed, just a simple digitalRead function. The obstacle avoidance feature is also quite responsive for small obstacles.

Perfect for my Arduino robot car
This module works exactly as described. The sensitivity adjustment potentiometer makes it very easy to calibrate for different surface colors. I used two of these for line tracking and one for obstacle avoidance, and my robot runs smoothly.
Q: What is the maximum current consumption of this module?
A: The module typically consumes around 20mA when the IR LED is active. Please ensure your microcontroller pin or external power source can supply at least 30mA to be safe.
Q: Can I use this outdoors in sunlight?
A: Outdoor use in direct sunlight is not recommended. Strong sunlight contains infrared radiation that can interfere with the sensor's readings, causing false triggers.
Q: Can this sensor detect clear glass obstacles?
A: Infrared sensors generally struggle with transparent objects like clear glass because the IR light passes through rather than reflecting back. It is best suited for opaque obstacles.
Q: Does this come with jumper wires included?
A: No, the package includes only the sensor module itself. Jumper wires and mounting screws are not included but are standard components available separately.
Q: Is the detection distance fixed or adjustable?
A: The detection distance is adjustable via the blue potentiometer on the board. You can tune it from approximately 2mm up to 30mm depending on your specific application needs.
