Reliable and durable

Great for electronic drum pads
I built a custom MIDI controller using these FSRs. They react quickly to strikes and provide decent velocity sensitivity. Just remember you need a proper resistor circuit; they don't work directly without some external components.

Works but sensitive to placement
The sensor works as described, but the reading changes slightly depending on exactly where you press within the active area. For simple button replacement, it's fine, but for precise weighing, you need a diffuser plate.

Good sensitivity, requires calibration
The sensor works well, but don't expect plug-and-play precision out of the box. You definitely need to map the analog readings to force values in your code. Once calibrated, it's very reliable for weight estimation.

Perfect for my robotic gripper project
These sensors are incredibly responsive. I used them to detect grip strength on a small robotic arm, and the linearity is good enough for my needs after calibration. The thin profile makes them easy to integrate into tight spaces.
Q: What is the maximum force before the sensor breaks?
A: While the effective sensing range is up to 10kg, the sensor can physically withstand higher forces. However, exceeding 20kg significantly increases the risk of permanent damage or delamination of the thin film layers.
Q: Can this sensor measure static weight continuously?
A: Yes, resistive thin-film sensors can measure static force. However, please note that there may be some initial drift in the reading during the first few minutes of constant load, which stabilizes over time.
Q: Do these sensors come with a connector or just wires?
A: The FSR402 typically comes with a solderable tail. There is no pre-attached connector; you will need to solder wires or use a ZIF connector depending on your specific module design.
Q: What resistor value should I use for the voltage divider?
A: A 10kΩ to 20kΩ pull-down resistor is generally recommended for general-purpose applications with the FSR402 to get a good range of voltage output relative to the force applied.
Q: Is this sensor waterproof?
A: No, the standard FSR402 is not waterproof. It should be protected from moisture and liquids. If you need water resistance, you must encapsulate the sensor in a protective membrane or housing.
