Solid performance for prototyping
We bought ten of these for our makerspace. Most work flawlessly. One unit had a slightly loose potentiometer, but it still functions. For the cost, you really can't beat the utility it provides for fire detection prototypes.

Fast response time
The reaction speed is impressive. As soon as the IR source hits the sensor, the LED indicator turns off and the output pin changes state immediately. Highly recommended for any project requiring rapid fire detection.

Reliable detection range
I integrated this into a custom safety rig for my workshop. It detects a standard lighter flame from about 1 meter away consistently. The digital output is clean and easy to interface with my microcontroller.

Easy to use for beginners

Perfect for my Arduino fire alarm project
This sensor worked exactly as described. The sensitivity potentiometer makes it very easy to calibrate for different environments. I tested it with a candle and a lighter, and the response time was instant.

Good value, but needs calibration
Great little module for the price. Out of the box, it was a bit too sensitive to ambient light, but after tweaking the screw with a small screwdriver, it works perfectly. Just make sure to test it thoroughly before final installation.
Q: Does this module come with connecting wires?
A: No, the module does not include pre-attached wires. It features solder pads and header pins that allow you to solder your own wires or connect it directly to a breadboard using jumper cables.
Q: Can I use this with a Raspberry Pi?
A: Yes, absolutely. Since the module operates at 3.3V to 5V and provides a simple digital high/low signal, it is fully compatible with Raspberry Pi GPIO pins. Just ensure you connect the VCC to the appropriate voltage pin on your Pi.
Q: Can this sensor detect sunlight or will it trigger false alarms?
A: The sensor is tuned to specific infrared wavelengths emitted by flames. While strong direct sunlight contains IR, proper calibration using the onboard potentiometer usually prevents false triggers indoors. For outdoor use, shielding the sensor from direct sun is recommended.
Q: Is this suitable for detecting gas leaks?
A: No, this is strictly an infrared flame sensor designed to detect the light spectrum emitted by fire. It cannot detect gas leaks. You would need a specific combustible gas sensor (like an MQ series) for that purpose.
Q: What is the maximum current this sensor can handle?
A: The digital output pin can typically sink or source up to 15mA, which is sufficient for driving an LED or inputting into a microcontroller GPIO. It is not designed to drive high-power loads like relays directly without a transistor or driver circuit.
