Perfect for robotic joint feedback

This sensor is incredibly easy to integrate with an Arduino. The SPI communication is stable, and the 12-bit resolution provides smooth angle readings for my robotic arm project. The included magnet is a nice touch.

Compact and reliable

Better than optical encoders for dusty env

Since this uses magnetic induction, dust and debris don't affect the reading like they do with optical slots. Perfect for my CNC retrofit project.

Great value, minor wiring confusion

The module works exactly as described. High precision and fast response. I deducted one star because the pinout diagram on the back was slightly faded, but the datasheet cleared everything up quickly.

Solid performance

We bought ten of these for our workshop. Nine worked flawlessly out of the box. One had a noisy signal, but customer support replaced it immediately. Good product overall.

5 FAQ

Q: Is there a library available for Raspberry Pi?

A: Yes, there are several open-source Python libraries available on GitHub that support the AS5600 via the I2C or SPI interface on Raspberry Pi. We recommend checking the 'AS5600-RPi' repository.

Q: Does the angle reset to zero when power is cycled?

A: The sensor measures absolute angle based on the magnet's position. It does not have internal battery-backed memory, so it will read the current physical angle immediately upon powering up, regardless of where it was when powered down.

Q: Does this module work with 5V logic levels directly?

A: Yes, the AS5600 module supports operating voltages from 3.3V to 5.0V, so it can be connected directly to 5V microcontrollers like the Arduino Uno without level shifters.

Q: Can I use a magnet larger than the one provided?

A: Yes, you can use a different magnet, but it must be diametrically magnetized. The diameter should ideally be between 6mm and 10mm, and the air gap between the magnet and sensor should be kept between 0.5mm and 2.5mm for best accuracy.

Q: What is the maximum RPM this sensor can handle?

A: The sensor has a very fast response time (<1ms). While the limit depends on your specific interface speed (SPI being the fastest), it generally handles up to 30,000 RPM effectively for most applications.
