Good value but needs stable power
Great module overall. Just make sure you provide a clean 5V supply; otherwise, it might fail to initialize. Once powered correctly, the enrollment and matching processes are very reliable.

Perfect for my smart lock project
This sensor works flawlessly with my Arduino Uno. The library support is excellent, and I had it up and running within an hour. The recognition speed is impressive for the price point.

Works well after firmware update
Initially had some connection issues, but updating the firmware via the PC tool resolved them. Now it works great with my ESP32. Just be prepared to do a little troubleshooting out of the box.

Reliable for attendance systems
We deployed ten of these for a small office attendance tracker. They have been running for three months without any false rejections. The UART communication is straightforward to parse.

Excellent sensitivity
I was surprised by how well this picks up fingerprint details. The matching algorithm is fast enough for real-time door access applications. Highly recommended for DIY security projects.

Easy to integrate
The wiring is simple, and the documentation provided by the community is helpful. It occasionally struggles with very dry fingers, but that seems common for optical sensors in this range.
Q: What is the maximum number of fingerprints I can store on this device?
A: The AS608 module has a storage capacity of 150 fingerprint templates. You can manage these IDs programmatically to add, delete, or search for specific fingerprints in your database.
Q: Is there a Python library available for Raspberry Pi integration?
A: Yes, there are several open-source Python libraries available on GitHub specifically designed for interfacing the AS608 with Raspberry Pi via the GPIO UART pins. We recommend checking the 'pyfingerprint' repository.
Q: Can this sensor work in complete darkness?
A: Absolutely. Since the AS608 is an optical sensor with its own light source for illumination, ambient lighting conditions do not affect its performance. It works equally well in total darkness or bright sunlight.
Q: Does this module work directly with 3.3V logic microcontrollers like ESP32?
A: Yes, the AS608 operates on 3.3V to 6.0V. However, ensure your microcontroller's TX/RX voltage levels match the sensor's requirements. Most 3.3V MCUs can connect directly, but level shifters are recommended for 5V Arduinos to protect the sensor RX pin.
Q: How do I reset the module if I forget the administrator password?
A: If you have lost access, you can perform a hardware reset by sending the specific 'Empty Database' command via UART, which clears all stored fingerprints and resets settings to default. Please refer to the datasheet for the exact command hex code.
