Bulk buy success

Purchased ten units for our makerspace. All of them tested within spec. The 5A version is sensitive enough for low-power circuits, while the 30A handles our power supplies well.

Reliable for motor monitoring

I am using the 20A version to monitor current draw on a DC motor. It handles the spikes well and the analog output is easy to read with an ADC. No overheating issues so far.

Perfect for Arduino Projects

Compact and effective

Great for learning electronics

Bought this for a university project. It was easy to interface with Python via a Raspberry Pi. The only downside is the noise on the output, but a simple capacitor fixed that.

Good value but needs calibration

The module arrived quickly and looks well-built. I had to calibrate the zero-point slightly in my code, but once done, it measures DC current very accurately. Great price point.

5 FAQ

Q: Is the pin header pre-soldered?

A: Typically, these modules come with the pin header included but not soldered, allowing you to choose between straight or right-angle headers, or to solder wires directly for permanent installation.

Q: Do I need an external library to use this with Arduino?

A: No external library is strictly necessary. You can read the analog pin directly and apply the sensitivity formula (e.g., (Reading - 512) * 5.0 / 1024 / Sensitivity) to calculate the current. However, community libraries exist to simplify this.

Q: Can this sensor measure AC current as well as DC?

A: Yes, the ACS712 module can measure both AC and DC current. The output voltage will vary around the VCC/2 baseline depending on the direction and type of current flow.

Q: What is the maximum voltage the input terminals can handle?

A: While the logic side operates at 5V, the current path is isolated. However, please refer to the specific datasheet for the maximum working voltage, typically around 2.5kV isolation, but keep your circuit voltages within safe low-voltage DC limits for hobby use.

Q: Which range should I choose for a 12V car battery monitor?

A: For automotive applications where current spikes can be high, we recommend the 20A or 30A version depending on your specific load. The 5A version might saturate if you power multiple accessories.
