Good sensor, needs careful calibration
The hardware quality is solid. However, you must spend time calibrating the magnetometer to get accurate heading data. Once calibrated, the tilt angles are quite precise. Documentation could be better.

Perfect for my drone project
This sensor module works flawlessly with my Arduino setup. The I2C communication is stable, and the data from the gyroscope and accelerometer is very smooth after calibration. Great value for the price.

Excellent for learning IMU concepts

Compact and powerful

Stable and responsive
Replaced an older MPU6050 with this JY901 compatible module. The addition of the magnetometer makes a huge difference in yaw stability. No noticeable drift during short flights.

Great bulk purchase for our lab
We ordered ten of these for our makerspace. Most work perfectly out of the box. One unit had a slightly noisy accelerometer, but overall the consistency is good for the price point.
Q: Are the mounting holes standardized?
A: Yes, the four corner mounting holes follow a standard M2.5 spacing, which allows for easy integration with common aluminum standoffs and chassis frames.
Q: Can I use this outdoors near magnetic interference?
A: The magnetometer can be affected by nearby motors or large metal objects. For outdoor use, we recommend performing a hard-iron and soft-iron calibration in the specific environment where the device will operate.
Q: Does this come with example code for ESP32?
A: While the package does not include a physical manual with code, we provide a link to a GitHub repository containing tested libraries and example sketches for ESP32, Arduino, and Raspberry Pi.
Q: What is the update rate of the sensor data?
A: The sampling rate is configurable via software. It can typically run up to 1kHz for the accelerometer and gyroscope, depending on your I2C bus speed and processing power.
Q: Is this module compatible with 5V Arduino boards like the Uno?
A: Yes, the module includes a voltage regulator and level shifters, making it safe to use with both 3.3V and 5V microcontrollers like the Arduino Uno.
