Unique shape and healthy start
The seedling arrived in great condition. The pot is sturdy, and the plant already shows the distinct figure-8 shaping beginning to form. Excited to watch it climb!

Interesting conversation starter
Guests always ask about the weird shape of these gourds. Easy to care for if you have enough sunlight. Just make sure to tie the vines gently as they grow.

Great for drying projects
Bought this specifically for the knotted shape to use in autumn decorations. Growth has been steady, though it needs a strong trellis sooner than expected.

Perfect ornamental addition
This adds such a quirky charm to my garden fence. The natural knotting technique used on the young gourd is impressive and holds well as it matures.

Fascinating growth pattern
I've grown many gourds, but the pre-tied knot feature on this variety is fascinating. It maintains its shape perfectly as it expands. Highly recommend for collectors.

Good plant, slow shipping
The plant itself is healthy and unique, but the shipping took longer than anticipated, and the leaves were slightly wilted upon arrival. They perked up after watering though.
Q: How long does it take for the gourd to fully dry after harvest?
A: After harvesting, it typically takes 1 to 3 months for the gourd to fully dry and cure, depending on humidity and airflow. You will know it is ready when it feels light and you can hear seeds rattling inside.
Q: Is the gourd edible when mature?
A: This specific ornamental oil hammer gourd is primarily grown for decorative and craft purposes. While some gourds are edible when young, this variety is best left to dry for collecting.
Q: Can this plant be grown indoors?
A: While it starts in a pot, this variety requires full sun and significant space for vining. It is best suited for outdoor gardens or large greenhouses.
Q: Do I need to retie the knot as the gourd grows?
A: No, the natural tying is done at a young stage to guide the shape. As the gourd hardens, it will maintain the figure-8 form without further intervention.
Q: What kind of support structure do you recommend?
A: We recommend a sturdy trellis, fence, or arbor that can support the weight of multiple mature gourds. Ensure the structure is at least 6 feet tall for optimal vertical growth.
