Good product, tricky start
Two out of five seeds didn't germinate, but the other three are thriving. I think I might have filed the shell too deep on the ones that failed. The ones that grew are very healthy though.

Perfect for my koi tank
Added these to the shallow shelf of my outdoor koi tank. The fish love the shade, and the flowers are stunning. They have survived the summer heat perfectly. Highly recommend for pond owners.

Great seeds, patience required
The seeds are high quality, but you really need to be patient. It took about 3 weeks for the sprouts to appear. Once they got going, growth was explosive. Just make sure you have a container wide enough.

Exceeded expectations
I live in an apartment with a balcony, and this is the perfect aquatic plant. The 'four-season' claim seems accurate as long as I bring the pot inside during frost. The leaves are huge and waxy.

Lovely addition to the garden
Very easy to grow if you have a sunny spot. The packaging was secure, and the seeds looked fresh. My only issue was that the instructions were a bit vague on fertilizer, but I figured it out.

Beautiful blooms in my indoor bowl!
I was nervous about growing lotus indoors, but these seeds germinated quickly after I followed the soaking instructions. Within two months, I had lovely green pads and now a beautiful pink flower. Perfect for my sunroom.
Q: How often should I change the water?
A: During the germination phase, change the water every 2-3 days to prevent stagnation. Once established in a larger container with soil, partial water changes every week or two are sufficient.
Q: Do I need to crack the seed shell before planting?
A: Yes, lotus seeds have a very hard outer shell. You must gently file or nick the rounded end (not the pointed tip) until you see the creamy interior, then soak in warm water until they sprout.
Q: Can these grow completely submerged underwater?
A: No, while the roots and rhizomes are submerged, the leaves and flowers must float on or rise above the water surface to access sunlight and air. They cannot survive if fully submerged.
Q: Will these survive winter outdoors in cold climates?
A: Lotus rhizomes can freeze if the water turns to solid ice. In cold climates, you should move the container to a garage or basement where temperatures stay above freezing, or bury the pot below the frost line in a pond.
Q: What size container do you recommend for starting?
A: We recommend a wide, shallow bowl at least 12-14 inches in diameter and 6 inches deep for starting. As the plant grows, you may need to transplant it into a larger tub or pond section.
