Excellent linearity
As advertised, the linearity is impressive. I compared it against a calibrated lux meter and the correlation was very strong. Highly recommended for precision tasks.

Great starter sensor
Very easy for a beginner to understand. Just connect VCC, GND, and read the analog pin. Documentation could be slightly better, but plenty of examples exist online.

Reliable and Consistent
I bought five of these for a classroom project. All of them performed identically right out of the box. The integrated amplifier saves a lot of circuit design time.

Good sensitivity, easy to use
The sensor picks up even subtle changes in room lighting. Integration was straightforward. Only giving 4 stars because the breakout board pins are a bit tight on standard breadboards.
Q: Do I need any external resistors to make this work?
A: No, the OPT101 includes an integrated feedback resistor and amplifier. You only need to provide power and connect the output to your reading device.
Q: What is the maximum supply voltage this sensor can handle?
A: The OPT101 operates safely within a range of 2.7V to 5.5V. We recommend using 3.3V or 5V for most microcontroller applications.
Q: Can I use this outdoors?
A: Yes, the operating temperature range is -40°C to +85°C. However, the component itself is not waterproof, so you must enclose it in a weatherproof housing for outdoor use.
Q: Is this sensitive to infrared light?
A: The spectral response peaks in the visible range around 650nm. While it has some sensitivity to near-infrared, it is primarily designed for visible light detection.
Q: Does this module output digital or analog signals?
A: This module outputs an analog voltage signal proportional to the light intensity detected. You will need an ADC (like on an Arduino) to read the value.
