Good value for industrial prototyping
Solid build quality for the price point. It detects dust changes quickly. Just remember you need to handle the timing pulses correctly in your code to get accurate readings.

Easy to interface
The pinout is clear and the documentation provided by the seller was helpful. It took me about 20 minutes to get the first reading on my Arduino Uno.

Reliable PM2.5 detection
I tested this against a commercial monitor and the trends matched very well. Great for triggering ventilation fans when dust levels rise in the workshop.

Perfect for DIY Air Quality Monitors
This sensor works exactly as described. I integrated it with an ESP8266 to build a home air quality station. The analog output is stable and easy to read with standard libraries.

Works but needs calibration
The sensor is functional out of the box, but absolute values vary between units. You definitely need to calibrate it against a reference if you need precise data, not just trends.
Q: Can I use this outdoors in the rain?
A: No, this module is not weatherproof or water-resistant. It must be housed in a protective enclosure with proper airflow if used in outdoor environments to prevent damage from moisture.
Q: Can this sensor detect cigarette smoke?
A: Yes, the infrared scattering principle used by this sensor is effective at detecting fine particulate matter found in cigarette smoke, typically falling within the PM2.5 range.
Q: What is the lifespan of the LED inside the sensor?
A: Under normal operating conditions with proper duty cycling, the internal IR LED is rated for approximately 5 years of continuous use. We recommend pulsing the LED only during measurement to extend life.
Q: Is the output digital or analog?
A: This specific GP2Y1014AU model provides an analog voltage output proportional to the dust density. You will need an ADC (Analog-to-Digital Converter) pin on your microcontroller to read it.
Q: Does this module come with a library for Arduino?
A: The module itself does not include a physical library card, but there are several open-source libraries available on GitHub compatible with the GP2Y1014AU that work seamlessly with Arduino IDE.
