Works well but documentation could be better
The hardware itself is fine and does what it says. However, some of the code examples in the SDK were a bit outdated for the latest Windows version. I had to tweak some dependencies to get it working smoothly. Once figured out, it performs well.

Great hardware, setup requires some tech knowledge
The box works exactly as described. It picks up calls instantly and saves them to the PC. However, if you aren't familiar with installing drivers or configuring software paths, you might need a little help. Once running, it's been rock solid for three months.

Stable and consistent performance
Deployed five of these units across our branch offices. They handle high call volumes without dropping recordings. The caller ID parsing works flawlessly with our local telecom provider. Excellent build quality for the price point.

Good value for landline recording
We use this to record customer service lines for training purposes. The installation was straightforward on Windows 10. The only minor issue is that the included basic software is quite plain, but since we are using our own management tool via the USB interface, it doesn't matter much.

Perfect for our custom CRM integration
We needed a hardware solution to integrate call logging into our proprietary software. The SDK provided by Zipei was well-documented and easy to implement. The device captures caller ID accurately and the audio quality is crisp. Highly recommended for developers.
Q: What happens if the computer goes to sleep during a call?
A: If the computer enters sleep mode, the USB connection may suspend, potentially interrupting recording. We recommend adjusting your Windows power settings to prevent the system from sleeping while the recording application is active.
Q: Can it record both sides of the conversation clearly?
A: Yes, the device monitors the line electrically, capturing both the inbound and outbound audio channels simultaneously. As long as the telephone line quality is good, both parties will be recorded clearly in a single audio file.
Q: Does this device work with VoIP phones or only traditional landlines?
A: This specific model is designed for analog landline (PSTN) connections. It connects between the wall jack and your telephone. It does not directly record digital VoIP streams unless you have an analog telephone adapter (ATA) converting the signal.
Q: Do I need external power or does it run off USB?
A: The Zipei Recording Box is bus-powered, meaning it draws all necessary electricity from the USB port of your computer. No external power adapter or outlet is required, making the setup cleaner.
Q: Is the SDK compatible with Python or only C++?
A: The primary SDK is provided in C++ and C#, but many of our users have successfully created Python wrappers to interface with the DLL files. We provide the core library documentation which allows for integration with various programming languages.
