Authentic Sichuan style
As a performer in a Sichuan opera troupe, I am very picky about my instruments. This drum delivers that sharp, high-pitch crack required for dramatic entrances. Excellent craftsmanship.

Perfect for our temple ceremonies
The pitch is exactly what we needed for our morning rituals. The cowhide is tight and the Toona wood resonates beautifully without being too loud. Highly recommended for traditional use.

Ordered five for our new hall
We purchased multiple units for our new community hall. Consistency across all drums was impressive. They produce a clear, penetrating sound ideal for large rooms and outdoor ceremonies.

Beautiful natural wood grain
I love that it comes unfinished. It allows me to apply my own lacquer if I choose, but the natural Toona wood grain is stunning on its own. The high pitch cuts through other instruments well.

Good value for traditional drum
Solid construction and good materials. The yellow cowhide is durable. It arrived safely packaged. Only giving 4 stars because the included sticks are a bit light, but the drum itself is perfect.

Great sound, needs breaking in
Bought this for a university music project on Chinese opera. The sound was a bit stiff at first, but after a few days of playing, the cowhide loosened up nicely. The unfinished wood looks authentic.
Q: What is the best way to maintain the yellow cowhide head?
A: Keep the drum in a moderate humidity environment. Avoid direct sunlight or extreme heat which can dry out the hide. If it becomes too loose, gentle playing will often tighten it; if too tight, slight moisture exposure helps.
Q: Can this be used for modern fusion music or is it strictly for opera?
A: While designed for Peking Opera and Taoist rituals, many musicians use this high-pitch drum in world fusion and experimental genres due to its unique, cutting tone and compact size.
Q: Are replacement heads available if the cowhide wears out?
A: Yes, we offer replacement yellow cowhide heads compatible with the 6.5" Toona wood shell. Please contact our support team with your order number for assistance.
Q: Does this drum come pre-tuned or do I need to adjust the tension myself?
A: This drum arrives with standard factory tension suitable for immediate use. However, as it features traditional cowhide, you can slightly adjust the pitch by warming the head or playing it frequently to loosen the fibers naturally.
Q: Is the wood treated with any chemicals since it is labeled 'unfinished'?
A: No, the Toona wood shell is sanded smooth but left without varnish, lacquer, or chemical sealants, preserving the natural aroma and feel of the wood for traditional authenticity.
