Perfect for collectibles

I carve small animals for sale, and this Thuja Sutchuenensis is my new favorite material. It cuts cleanly with both hand tools and rotary tools. The density is just right for durability.

Excellent quality for intricate carving

The grain on this Hubei cypress is incredibly consistent. I used it for a detailed figurine project, and the wood held the fine lines perfectly without splintering. The natural aroma is also a pleasant bonus while working.

Authentic Hubei Cypress

As someone who has worked with various cypress types, this is genuinely high-quality stock from Hubei. The scent is strong and authentic, indicating fresh, well-preserved wood. Highly recommended for serious craftsmen.

Beautiful material for furniture

Purchased a log to make a small side table. The full-heart structure means there are very few knots to work around. It sands down to a beautiful smooth finish and the color is rich and warm.

Great wood, requires proper drying time

The quality of the raw wood is top-notch. Just be aware that even though it is air-dried, you may need to let it acclimate to your local humidity for a few weeks before starting a large project to prevent minor warping.

Good value for the size

Received a solid log with minimal cracks. It was slightly heavier than expected, which speaks to its density. Great for turning bowls or creating decorative boxes. Would buy again.

5 FAQ

Q: Can this wood be used for food-contact items like cutting boards?

A: While the wood is natural, we recommend applying a food-safe finish if you intend to use it for food-contact items. Always ensure the wood is properly sealed according to safety standards for kitchenware.

Q: What are the approximate dimensions of the log?

A: Dimensions vary by individual piece as these are natural logs. Please check the specific product listing variations for length and diameter options ranging from 20cm to 50cm in length.

Q: Is this wood treated with any chemicals or preservatives?

A: No, this is 100% raw, natural wood without any chemical treatments, paints, or preservatives, making it safe for indoor carving and furniture projects.

Q: Does this species have a strong resin content that gums up tools?

A: Thuja Sutchuenensis generally has moderate resin content. It is less likely to gum up tools compared to some pine varieties, but we still recommend cleaning your blades periodically during extensive carving sessions.

Q: How should I store this raw wood before using it?

A: Store the log in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature changes. Wrapping it in breathable cloth can help maintain consistent moisture levels until you are ready to work.
