Great for projects
Took a full season to mature in my zone, but the results were worth it. The shapes are unique and traditional. Just make sure to give them plenty of trellis space.

Beautiful dried finish
After curing for three months, the shells are hard and smooth. The color variation between the small and large varieties adds a nice touch to my craft displays.

Fun family project
My kids enjoyed watching the different shapes develop. Some look like bottles, others like tiny pumpkins. A fun addition to any vegetable garden.

Perfect mix of sizes!
I loved growing these. The 'Small Ant' varieties turned out adorable, perfect for keychains, while the giant ones made beautiful birdhouses. Germination rate was excellent.

Good but needs heat
They grew well during the hot summer months, but the early cool snap stunted some plants. If you have a short growing season, start these indoors early.

Highly productive vines
These vines grew vigorously. I ended up with over 30 gourds from just one packet. The Eight Treasures pattern on the skin is very distinct as they dry.
Q: Are these seeds edible like squash seeds?
A: No, these are ornamental gourd varieties. While related to squash, they are bred for shell hardness and shape, not for culinary consumption.
Q: Do I need to cure these gourds before using them for crafts?
A: Yes, once harvested, the gourds must be dried in a warm, ventilated area for 1-3 months until the seeds rattle inside and the shell is hard.
Q: What is the difference between the Small Ant and Giant varieties in this pack?
A: The Small Ant variety produces miniature gourds typically 2-3 inches long, ideal for ornaments. The Giant variety can grow up to 12 inches or more, suitable for larger crafting projects.
Q: When is the best time to harvest?
A: Harvest in late autumn after the vine has died back and the gourd stem turns brown. Ensure you cut them before the first hard frost damages the skin.
Q: Can these be grown in containers?
A: Yes, but you will need a large container (at least 5 gallons) and a sturdy trellis for the vines to climb. Container plants may produce slightly fewer fruits.
