Good sensor, tricky setup
The sensor itself works well but requires careful calibration. Good value for the price.
Q: Can this detect nearby metal objects?
A: It detects magnetic field disturbances caused by metal, but it is designed primarily for geomagnetic sensing.
Q: Does this include a breakout board?
A: This listing is for the raw module. Breakout boards are sold separately.
Q: What library do you recommend for Arduino?
A: We recommend using the Adafruit LSM303 or generic I2C magnetometer libraries.
Q: Is hard iron calibration necessary?
A: Yes, for accurate compass heading, hard and soft iron calibration is recommended.
Q: Is this module 5V tolerant?
A: No, this sensor operates between 1.7V and 3.6V. Using 5V may damage the component.
